STAT tests are those types of tests that can be performed as soon as technically possible and assist rapid management of clinical emergencies. Only physician ordered STAT tests would be considered as STAT test requests. All STAT test results are phoned to the "physician (or other person responsible for patient care)" upon completion and verification of test results by the section supervisor. All STAT test results would be called within two hours of the specimen received in the laboratory. Written test results should be delivered within four hours after the specimen draw.
